Why I built it
FutureMe’s paid plan did not make sense for sending roughly one meaningful email a year. I wanted a clean UI, no clutter, and no paywall for basic use — a simple free app for emails to your future self.
A month earlier I had commented on the FutureMe alternatives thread (covered in the origin chapter). People showed up. By the welcome post, more than 500 people had signed up.
What the subreddit is for
On April 22, 2025 I opened r/EmailToFuture as the home for bug reports, feature ideas, experiences with reflection and personal growth, creative uses of the product, and behind-the-scenes updates.
The tone I wanted was collaborative: ship in the open, listen, and grow something meaningful with the people who actually use it.
Community reaction
Early comments mixed gratitude, privacy questions, and feature ideas (attachments showed up almost immediately). That mix — trust + roadmap — has stayed the pattern for the whole journey.
From the community
wahhh thank you for this website. I was trying to write a letter on futureme but when I tried sending it, the site said that I have to pay first, which I found very disappointing. thankfully, I found your website. you're such a life saver!
