A year in
By June 2026 EmailToFuture had been running for over a year. Growth outpaced what I expected. I had been quieter on Reddit, but usage, reviews, and feature suggestions kept coming.
Mobile
The waitlist on the site reflected a clear ask: people wanted a mobile app alongside web. I confirmed development was in progress and pointed folks to the waitlist for launch news.
Sustainability without killing the core
Costs scale with success. I shared the plan: introduce a small set of premium features later while keeping the ability to create and send time capsules to your future self free. Attachments were called out as likely premium candidates.
What the community emphasized
Comments ranged from practical monetization ideas (attachments-only storage, light ads) to values: do not allow early opening of sealed capsules — that was why some people left FutureMe. Others described using capsules as journaling through stressful seasons. That feedback shaped how I talked about premium later.
From the community
Whatever you do, do not allow early opening of time capsules (whether free or premium). Premature access defeats the purpose, and it’s the exact reason I left FutureMe.
u/Naive-Squash-2083View on RedditJust wanted to share my thanks!! I kinda use these kinds of things as journaling, and it is so helpful to me in stressful moments. I love that I can set the time too. I like to receive emails I've sent to myself after a stressful moment and be like "see, it worked out, didn't it?"
u/Puzzleheaded-Mix8167View on RedditAttachments for premium user is a good idea, but also restrict it for images only so that it won't eat up server storages too much. Ads-free experience for premium user, but with this, you also have to introduce ads to free users, which i and also many people are probably don't mind, as long as it's not obtrusive or annoying.
